review: rotten apple 907
Every Halloween season, for the past thirty years, hundreds of curious haunters flock to a residential street in Burbank to see what one of LA’s most notorious haunted houses, Rotten Apple 907, has to offer. This seasonal staple takes place in nothing more than a modest front yard space and rarely repeats its themes - often reimagining each new attraction from scratch. Rotten Apple 907 is consistently one of the most breathtaking Halloween experiences as the family who runs this haunt, the Meyers, collectively possess some of the most inspiring and creative ideas that are brought to life every October.
Through the years the Meyers have explored multiple genres - incorporating everything from sci-fi to horror to fantasy. This year's maze, Evil In the London Fog, transforms their Burbank yard into the eerie, cobblestone streets of London where werewolves and murderers lurk in the shadows of the London plague. Throughout your journey you will pass through moonlit cemeteries where you encounter animatronic entities. You will also meet Mrs. Lovett, the grisly character from Sweeney Todd, who is busy stuffing her meat pies with insects and the remains of the demon barber’s victims. Around the corner you will run into Sweeney Todd himself (played by one of the best scare actors - Preston Meyer) and his amazing human meat grinder. We also loved the scene in this room where a man stands over a child who is tirelessly grinding human remains, yelling for him to work faster.
Rotten Apple 907’s talent for storytelling is only surpassed by their incredible attention to detail. The fact that their lighting, sound, and design is so incredibly superb makes this haunt a true seasonal favorite. We are always thrilled with our visit to Rotten Apple 907 as they provide some of the greatest Halloween moments for their local community. We love and respect the Meyers family so much and really look forward to enjoying their work for years to come.
