Review: Rock n Roll Will Never Die /Lilley Hall of Toluca Lake
It’s always a fun treat to discover new streets on our haunt journeys. Thanks to the SoCal Haunt List, we learned about Mariposa Street in Toluca Lake - where we found two new haunts that we really enjoyed: “Rock n Roll Will Never Die” and “Lilley Hall of Toluca Lake”.
As musicians living in an era of dark times for the industry, we enjoyed the irony of the title of “Rock n Roll Will Never Die”. This haunt is a really fun display that features skeletons paying tribute to some of the best musicians of our time. We loved seeing the motion activated Slash riding a Harley and doing wheelies as he chatted with visitors who walked by him. Angus Young was frozen in a mid-jump above the many red lights that flashed throughout the yard. There was a third skeleton with a mohawk who was playing keyboards - a tribute to Madonna Wayne Gacy (aka Pogo) from Marilyn Manson? We were uncertain, but either way these characters were very original and entertaining.
One block away, we visited Lilley Hall of Toluca Lake. This haunt is a 1927 Tudor home where Paramount composer Joseph Lilley resided while composing some of the studio's most notable musicals. This home is absolutely beautiful and covered in festive lights and decor. Inside its gated yard are hundreds of vintage, glowing plastic jack-o’-lanterns, ghosts, and witches. These not only adorn the yard but seem to be stuck in every available window space of this breathtaking home. Lilley Hall of Toluca Lake is a wonderful trip back in time to a more classic Halloween.
This block on Mariposa Street is a really enjoyable visit for those looking to enjoy a quick Halloween stroll through a peaceful neighborhood that has some great photo opportunities.
