REVIEW: Opechee Haunt presents: A Trick for No Treats

Glendale’s Opechee Haunt comes from a talented group of new haunters who emerged a few years ago. Opechee, along with Rosehill Haunt, Twisted Minds Productions, and Murder House Productions, were all created by teenagers who brought their visions to life within the front yards of their family homes. These haunts outshined large scale enterprises like Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights and proved to be one of the more exciting new waves of Los Angeles haunts in years.

Opechee Haunt reinvents itself every year thanks to the creative genius of Sam Kellman. His haunts have taken on different formats including mazes, live yard displays, and most recently a creepy murdery mystery tour that brought you through his neighborhood. This year's display, “A Trick for No Treats”, features demonic children who are creating mischief and havoc as they destroy the Halloween yard display - ripping up lights and smashing pumpkins. Near the home’s front door is one little demon with a sinister expression who lurks, holding a knife as Halloween music plays from above. The details of this haunt display are beautifully rendered and include festive lights, tombstones, and projected shadows. There are even wonderful Easter eggs from past haunts, like the crumpled up piece of homework from the 2018 Donnie Darko maze.

A Trick for No Treats is Kellman’s first Halloween display, and it's an effective one at that. As he pointed out himself, “Most people start with a display and I am now working backwards to learn how to build one!” Please book an appointment through Opechee’s social media so that they can ensure safe and socially distanced visits.
