REVIEW: Horrorworld presents the Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Local legends Larry and Cheryl Bones, otherwise known as Boneyard Effects, have a deep history in the Southern California haunt scene. For over two decades they have been in the haunt business, starting off by working with local haunt institutions (e.g. Halloween Horror Nights) to creating their own unique and otherworldly haunt experiences. For this 2021 pre-Halloween season they are hosting a pop-up haunt, “Horrorworld”, that is a tribute to the Texas Chainsaw Massacre in their new(ish) location.
Horrorworld is located in the food court of Rancho Cucamonga’s Haven City Market. The space that used to be a large storefront has now been transformed into an extensive and very detailed haunt maze. As you travel through the haunt you will encounter Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise favorites, Leatherface and Grandpa Sawyer, who excel at catching you by surprise as they gruesomely torture their victims. The maze is chillingly silent, only to be disrupted every so often by quiet sounds that slowly build the suspense which Boneyard is infamous for. This silence, accompanied by an intricate set design and heavily shadowed atmosphere, breathes new life into a familiar cult film narrative.
Horrorworld is hosting this temporary haunt to hold visitors over until Boneyard’s “Into the Black” haunt returns this fall. We loved our experience at Horrorworld and its epic tribute to the Texas Chainsaw Massacre. We highly recommend you visit this haunt, which will be active for the next couple of weekends, to hold you over until Halloween season gets into full swing next month.
