review: fear farm drive thru
The difficulties that the haunt community has endured this year cannot be overstated. Home haunts are often passion projects, created with a lot of thought and dedication, that exist for the entertainment of their local communities. During this time of social distancing, many haunted mazes have either switched to displays or gone dark for the season. Some haunts, however, have changed into drive thrus in order to ensure the safety of haunt visitors while maintaining an interactive experience. Fear Farm Drive Thru is the most unexpected surprise of this season with their new, socially distanced haunt in the High Desert.
The scale of what Fear Farm has created in their home’s yard is absolutely spectacular. We began the drive thru by seeing the memorial to Stitchface, one of our favorite Halloween cosplayers, who sadly passed away recently from an accident. Driving further down the dirt road we went through the set of a handbuilt, two-story ghost town - where we became part of a zombie attack! This skit was thoroughly enjoyable and its fun and interactive nature reminded us of the Ghost Town at Knott’s Scary Farm.
Continuing through the haunt, we drove past a creepy cemetery in which we saw people mysteriously disappear out of caskets through the use of clever magic tricks. On the outskirts of the cemetery loomed a beautiful victorian mansion reminiscent of the Addams family home. We then drove by an animatronic human meat grinder and witnessed someone getting electrocuted. After that, we passed by a demonic circus populated by sinister clowns. The last section of the drive thru was an ominous Area 51 themed zone filled with alien corpses, bizarre green liquids, and a mutated doctor with an insect/reptile head.
We have been attending this haunt for years and have greatly enjoyed witnessing its evolution from its original incarnation as a haunted tractor ride. Fear Farm Drive Thru is a safe and amazing experience and truly one of the greatest highlights of this haunt season! We’d like to give special thanks to @hauntingnet for convincing us to make the long trek out to the High Desert just for this - it was totally worth it!
