review: the pirate’s cave

Year after year, the last weekend of the haunt season is filled with large lines, congested parking, and chaos. It can be difficult to catch the more limited run haunts during this time, and therefore we always miss out on some due to logistical issues. One of these haunts that we’ve missed out on for the past several years is The Pirate’s Cave. However, this year we finally made it out to Orange County to enjoy some swashbuckling adventures!

The Pirate’s Cave is a legendary haunt that offers an immersive pirate experience. Created by Jacob Larson (who is only 16) with his dad, Dave, this yard display show incorporates projection, lighting, actors, and technically sophisticated props that take you deep into a world of cursed pirates. Visitors will enjoy seeing actors, played by Larson’s high school friends, tell the story of a cursed treasure chest. During this show you get lightly sprayed by water, see an animatronic octopus, and witness the entire set catch on fire through the creative use of special effects.

The Pirate’s Cave is a deep dive into the mind of a young and creative haunter who no doubt has a bright future ahead of him. While tonight is this haunt’s last set of shows for the season, we encourage everyone to add this haunt to their journeys in the Orange County area. Not only is this haunt very entertaining, it is also employing excellent safety measures in order to protect the health of all visitors. As always, please wear a mask and engage in safe social distancing during your haunt visits.
