review: fairbrook manor
Haunts often experience a few years of growing pains before they expand and develop their theme. Sometimes there is an exception to this rule and a haunt will evolve very quickly. This year, Long Beach’s own Fairbrook Manor completely exceeded our expectations by jumping from a yard display to their first year as a maze within a short period of time.
Fairbrook Manor was born during the 2020 pandemic, and its first incarnation was a very intricate, walkthrough yard display containing various original animatronic characters, a cemetery, and floating ghosts. Considering how memorable this yard display was, it shouldn’t have been a surprise to us when Fairbrook Manor transformed into a high quality maze. The maze is beautifully done, and incorporates elements of the 2020 yard display, like the creepy animatronic characters seen through the home’s windows.
The maze is filled with dense fog, dim blue lights, and incredible child actors from the local theater. Along your travels you will learn the tale of a woman named Victoria Fairbrook, who began to kidnap children after her own had drowned. She then committed suicide and left the kidnapped children alone in the manor - which eventually burned down. At one point in the maze you will find yourself in a playroom that exits into a forest. Within the forest, you will meet numerous frightening characters who warn you that Victoria Fairbrook will be angry at your trespass.
Fairbrook Manor is already showing great promise very early on in their haunt career. Their quick transition from a yard display to a maze proves that their talents are limitless. On top of that, they are using their maze as a food drive for their local community. We highly encourage you to make the journey to Fairbrook Manor and enjoy all of the scares that it has to offer.
