REVIEW: Vasquez Rocks Haunted Hike
This past weekend we experienced the incredible Vasquez Rocks Haunted Hike located deep in the Sierra Pelona Mountains of northern Los Angeles County. Going on its third year, this maze is created by the park rangers and is more than your average Halloween experience. A tour guide will lead you through spooky trails while telling frightening stories of monsters who have taken over the land. As you travel towards the maze you are surrounded by the shadows of the enormous and historic 25-million-year-old rock formations.
The Vasquez Rocks Natural Area Park has been used in many film productions, including Dracula (1931), Army of Darkness, Werewolf of London, and Star Trek (television and film). The picturesque and otherworldly natural rock formations are therefore the perfect setting for a twilight Halloween attraction. As you begin the hike you will be guided only by the light of the moon as you encounter all kinds of nightmarish creatures ranging from vampires to aliens and packs of zombies. Your tour guide will offer commentary and comedic relief which at times is reminiscent of Disney’s Jungle Cruise. The thirty minute hike wraps up in a maze where you run into nuns, demons, and skeletons.
The Vasquez Rocks Haunted Hike is a great opportunity to experience a breathtaking California monument during a rare moonlight hike. We look forward to seeing how this haunt grows through the years and are thankful to the rangers for putting on this event.
