REVIEW: Shiver

The Santa Clarita area has quickly become the DIY haunt epicenter of the LA region. Legendary mazes include Beware the Dark Realm, Club Fear, and Pumpkin Jack’s Haunted House; and spectacular yard displays include Coffinwood Cemetery and The Farm Home Haunt. Joining the ranks of these notable haunts is “Shiver” - a maze that is equally as entertaining as it is horrifying.

When you arrive at Shiver you will be greeted by an undead pregnant clown, known as “Noname”, whose grotesque, unborn child is trying to rip its way out of her. She never breaks character as she maniacally pushes her carriage of dead babies, cracking one liners and leading the way to behind the house where the secret maze is located. Once you enter into the maze you will find yourself inside a bizarre town inhabited by demented clowns, maniacal animatronics, and mischevious characters. The fog filled rooms contain horrors and surprises, like a miniature, knife-wielding Pennywise who is stabbing hanging corpses, or a gruesome dinner table serving a feast of (real) children's heads. The set designs of this maze reflect the insanity of the characters as you walk by spray painted clown graffiti, blood-spattered walls, and gore-filled corridors.

Located within minutes of Six Flags, Shiver holds a very distinctive, artistic quality that doesn’t shy away from injecting humor into horror. It is a frenzied trip into the dark imaginations of its creators, who fully embrace both the horrific and absurd.
