REVIEW: SHIVER

Considering that this is the first year they are officially open, The Shiver Haunt SCV in Santa Clarita does a great job of offering an intensely fun and frightening experience. This haunt belongs to David and Gwen, who spent all of their free time building this multiple room maze in their backyard. The maze includes their takes on Halloween classics like demonic nuns and possessed dollhouses. Throughout there also very original characters, like “Nibbles”, the creepy child clown who wants to “come out and play” with you.

The maze begins with Gwen who starts you off on your adventure. She is completely dedicated to her character of a pregnant woman who is carrying a demon baby that is trying to rip its way out of her uterus. Gwen’s dialogue is quick and witty and laced with bizarre antics which she tailors for each guest. Her quickly improvised one-liners are akin to those of a seasoned comedian, and give you a taste for the dark humor which awaits you inside the maze. The characters you will encounter are really fun and love to interact with guests, shouting lines like: “Pray for your soul… and pray for the Dodgers they need it!”. Dave’s personal touch can also be seen in the maze when you are taken by surprise and thoroughly impressed by a variety of pneumatic mechanisms.

Whether you are laughing or screaming, or both, you will have a phenomenally good time at the Shiver Haunt SCV. Gwen and David have put a tremendous amount of work into their haunt experience, and we are very pleased that they have become a thriving part of the Santa Clarita haunt community.
