REVIEW: SANTA’S WORKSHOP - TOY’S REVENGE
After every Thanksgiving, decomposing Jack-o’-Lanterns are replaced by inflatable Santas, cobwebs give way to festive lights, and the screams and tricks of Halloween are replaced with joys and gifts of Christmas. This gives a melancholy glaze to the season as we start to miss the ghouls and shadows of the haunt world. The countdown begins for next Halloween, and usually this means that all the horrors are packed up for another year…..unless you are lucky enough to live in Los Angeles.
Los Angeles is very fortunate to host an incredibly array of creative minds, and during this season we are thankful for Twisted Minds Productions (TMP), a collective of teenagers who brought us the 2018 haunt of demonic possession “Anneleise: The Experience”. For this Christmas season they have created an incredible haunt: “Santa’s Workshop: Toys Revenge”. It’s an original take on the holidays - merging horror and humor into a really fun amalgamation of Halloween and Christmas.
Zion Fenwick, one of TMP’s masterminds, built Santa’s Workshop in his front yard during the few weeks that his parents were out of town. Upon arriving to the haunt you are met with beautiful Christmas lights which flicker against a blue shadowy background as you are quickly enveloped in a fog that carries the sweet scents of holiday spices. Within the haunt you will meet a motley crew of mischievous characters at every corner: a demonic teddy bear, a man being strangled by his own Christmas lights, a possessed toy doll, and a chainsaw wielding rag covered man. Our most memorable moment was when we were locked up in a room in which we had to dig through rotten egg nog to retrieve the key that let us out.
Santa’s Workshop: Toys Revenge was the perfect way to end the 2018 haunt season. TMP cares deeply about their craft and always includes amazing details in their haunts, like showcasing distinguished members of the haunt community (TMP, Murder House Productions, Opechee Haunt, Rosehill Haunt, and Midsummer Scream), who were wearing elf hats in the “Elf of the Year” portraits. Some of the people in photos were also characters you may have just met in Santa’s Workshop of horrors.
Twisted Minds Productions has created a magnificent haunt which has gifted Halloween lovers with one more round of screams before the end of the year. The line outside Santa’s Workshop was filled with haunters and fans alike, all filled with joy and delight. Tonight is the last night to visit Santa’s Workshop! You won’t regret going, even if you do end up on Santa’s naughty list.
Santa’s Workshop: Toys Revenge closing night is tonight 5:30PM- 9:00PM. Admission is free though donations are encouraged.
