review: Rotten Apple 907: Let's Go to the Movies

Without a doubt, Burbank's Rotten Apple 907 is the most influential haunt in California. Throughout the decades (and a pandemic!) it has consistently delivered an original and innovative experience that changes with every season. Many of its peers have burned out or shut down, but Rotten Apple has survived and flourished without ever skipping a beat. A neighborhood fixture and stronghold in the Halloween community, Rotten Apple is the highlight of the season for the hundreds of fans who attend on a nightly basis.

This year's theme is "Let's Go to the Movies" and tells the original story of the California Theater - a building which opened to show horror films in 1952 and subsequently closed under mysterious circumstances a few years later. Once the usher lets you inside the theater you become a part of some of your favorite horror classics like The Nun, Killer Klowns from Outer Space, and The Birds - running face to face into the villians from each film. To our surprise we noticed they even have an original horror film "showing" entitled "Attack of Rotten Apple". Not everything is scares however, as at one point you pass by Beetlejuice's grave - where he pops out and improvises some hilarious and witty crowd work.

"Let's Go to the Movies" is filled with the high quality features that Rotten Apple 907 is famous for - amazing builds, captivating storytelling, and professional lighting, sound, and acting. This has all come to be expected from the family behind this maze who have spent a majority of their life perfecting the art of a good scare. For the 2023 Halloween season, Rotten Apple 907 has proven once again that they are the leaders of SoCal haunting! (As always, admission is free and donations are accepted on behalf of the Volunteers of the Burbank Animal Shelter.)
