REVIEW: Micheltorena Pumpkinfest and Haunted House
For several years, we have been attending Micheltorena Elementary’s Pumpkinfest and family-friendly haunted house. This fundraiser for the school is a delightful fall festival complete with arts and crafts, treats, musical performances, and an amazing haunted house (located within the school). We are huge fans of this haunted house and this year’s theme, a tribute to Harry Potter, was incredible.
The maze’s guide was Hagrid, who began our journey by dispensing wands (or rather, allowing the wands to choose their holders) and teaching our group a few useful spells. Once inside the halls of Hogwarts we were greeted by talking portraits, aka students whose heads were protruding from framed paintings as they spoke in British accents. We then entered into Professor Snape’s lab, where we were taught the spell “Arania Exumai” in order to blast away Acromantulas (giant, deadly spiders). Our travels continued as we entered into the lair of the king of Acromantulas, Aragog, through a psychedelic black light passageway covered in cobwebs. To our side we saw a Grindylow (a tentacled, green water demon) who appeared to be swimming in murky waters thanks to a display of expert puppetry. We then came face to face with Aragog, and thanks to our group chanting the vanquishing spell we had learned, were able to escape with our lives.
Micheltorena’s maze was an incredibly fun journey into the world of fantasy and adventure. The team of students and volunteers created a haunted house that was both charming and artistic, making it an experience to be enjoyed by people of all ages while raising money for the school’s fall fundraiser.
