REVIEW: Manuel Baca’s Tribute to Haunted Mansion
For the past two decades, Manuel Baca has been making Halloween yard displays at his Burbank home. However, we didn’t find out about his work until this year thanks to a hot tip from our fellow haunters over at Midsummer Scream Located at 311 N. Glenwood Place Baca’s yard display offers a new theme each year and is structured as a yard walkthrough with meticulously detailed decorations. This year, Baca has created an impressive tribute to the cult classic, Haunted Mansion.
A lot of familiar characters from the legendary dark ride make an appearance: the singing busts, the grandfather clock, and the cemetery caretaker with his dog all lurk within the darkness of the yard. An eerie skeleton hovers over an organ playing the Haunted Mansion theme music while the busts who, like their peers in the ride queue, eyeball your every footstep. If you are brave enough to delve deeper towards the home’s front door you will experience impressive effects, like a ringing rotary phone and a hungry young werewolf who pops out from his doghouse.
This yard display is a wonderful fan tribute which appeals to Halloween lovers of all ages. As you look around at Baca’s work it becomes very evident that his talent and artistic vision isn’t limited to a seasonal exhibit. Baca has worked on films and television shows like Jason Goes to Hell, Freddy’s Nightmares, and Tales from the Crypt. This extraordinary background in film and dedication to the spirit of Halloween has no doubt helped Manuel Baca create one of the best yard displays in all of Burbank.
