REVIEW: APARTMENT 213
Apartment 213 isn’t an escape room or a maze. Rather, you are trapped inside of a dimly lit basement within a downtown building. You quickly become part of a very manic storyline involving a missing girl named Emily. You don’t really do much to help find her, instead you become a punching bag prop for the performers.
This extreme experience is like living inside Harmony Korine’s Trash Humpers or Gummo: the characters are crazy and unpredictable. For example, you will be dragged from room to room by a very large man with an axe (a real life ex-Raider!). In each room you will have encounters with various characters within barely lit sets decorated with grim, suburban furniture. This is both disorienting and confusing- which in this case I enjoyed.
Apartment 213 is not for those who are easily scared. Though I never felt actually threatened during my time there, it was a physically rough experience. You will be forcefully touched and yelled at throughout the whole event. Your clothes might get damaged. This is an attraction for those haunters who are looking for the most extreme experience possible. Not for the faint hearted!
