REVIEW: I Like Scary Movies
Everyone grows up wanting to be in the movies, and thus the magical world of cinema draws millions of tourists to Hollywood every year. People crowd outside Grauman’s Chinese Theater, trudge up and down the Hollywood walk of fame, and take double decker bus ride tours throughout the Hollywood Hills. Tourists and locals alike are continuously looking for photo opportunities at famous film locations, and this is magnified by the intensity of social media.
The current horror/dark fantasy exhibit by artist Maximillian, entitled “I Like Scary Movies”, brings to life scenes from cult movie favorites. The 25,000 square foot show allows fans to step into the most iconic scenes of their favorite films such as IT, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Beetlejuice, The Shining, and The Lost Boys.
I Like Scary Movies is an immersive experience which encourages interactions and explorations - it’s the horror version of the Museum of Ice Cream or “Under The Table” by Robert Therrien. Whether you are posing with the twins from The Shining, trapped within Pennywise’s lair, or melting inside of Dante’s Inferno, you will feel like you are a part of the exhibition itself as you create memorable selfies. The production and technology of this exhibit displays special twists - as motion triggers cause faces to come out of walls and children captured by Pennywise to float above your head.
While not a haunted house, I Like Scary Movies is a great destination for people to enjoy a night out among life size replicas of iconic horror movie scenes. This exhibit is a fun and engaging experience - a halloween flavored treat that will hold you over until July’s Midsummer Scream.
