REVIEW: haydenville haunter
We are big fans of Darren Talmadge’s Haydenville Haunter (HH). This Moreno Valley attraction has changed themes every year, yet it always incorporates signature visuals like subterranean graves filled with skeletons. This year brings us a new original maze called "The Curse of The Sacred Pinecone".
A few days ago we stated that Rotten Apple 907 is one of the biggest influencers within the DIY haunt world. The following information might be a deep cut for hardcore haunters, but nonetheless we wanted to share an Easter egg. Rotten Apple has had a longstanding tradition of hiding the same troll within a scene of their haunt. Often people, who are in the know, are excited when they find it. This tradition rubbed off on Talmadge's daughter, who was inspired to hide a pinecone within the HH maze every single season - hence the title of this year's maze.
The haunt is centered around a large cobra statue hidden within a cave. The snake, who is protecting the sacred pinecone, is surrounded by a pool of water. Once you pass, via a wobbly bridge, the curse begins. As fog fills the room you enter otherworldly passages that are dark and filled with skeletons. All of these rooms contain a unique ambience thanks to the looming fog being contained by the hand crafted rocky walls - a Haydenville technique that we call "The Talmadge Touch".
It is always a joy to see what ideas Haydenville Haunter chooses to explore with each season. This year’s haunt truly puts on display Talmadge’s creative skills that weave a journey that feels like a psychedelic Indiana Jones scene. If you are out in the Riverside area we encourage you to go and experience "The Curse of the Sacred Pinecone" with your own eyes!
