REVIEW: Glenwood Mis-Adventureland

There is nothing more exciting than when an impressive home haunt pops out of nowhere. A few years ago, in the suburb of La Crescenta, the Glenwood Mine Co. appeared out of nowhere to immediate fanfare - bringing its visitors into underground depths for a very realistic haunted mine journey. Its shaky elevator illusions and hyper realistic mine shafts were memorable to everyone who entered, making this one of the most hyped home haunts of the past few years.

While it would be easy for most haunts to continue repeating the success of a haunt like the Mine Co., this isn’t the case for creators Kirby (a tiki bar builder) and Polly Jackson. They decided to re-theme for 2024 creating the Disneyland inspired haunted maze titled "Glenwood Mis-Adventureland”. This multi-room maze takes you through a cursed Jungle Cruise - where skeletons are now driving the boats as gorillas have escaped their cages. You then enter into Kirby's actual tiki bar where he has wired the walls and hanging puffer fish to animatronically come to life - recreating a version of Disney's infamous Enchanted Tiki Room. As the fish and tiki gods sing the famous song of the Disney attraction a volcano begins to erupt - an illusion created through sound, lighting, and visual effects - causing you to exit through a corridor of psychedelic lava where you encounter a massive puppeteered skull who scares you into a hallway. The corridor is inspired by the Indiana Jones Adventure ride where the floor falls as you approach an animated gold statue head. As you move spikes come out at you from the walls - cursing you to your exit to conclude an exhilarating experience.

The Glenwood Mis-Adventureland haunt proves that massive amounts of creativity are often spilling out from everyone around us. By day Kirby runs a business in the swimming pool industry. During his off time, he custom built his home tiki bar, “The Rumpus Room”, which inspired him to make this incredible home haunt. Through this imaginative interpretation of Disneyland classics, mixed with their incredible sense of humor (Polly's on cue one-liner jokes are legendary - and fit in perfectly with the Jungle Cruise segment!), the Jacksons have proven once again that they are masters of their craft and unparalleled in Halloween entertainment - providing guests with a night they’ll never forget!
