review: Ghostwood Manor: Pharaoh’s Hall

A few years ago SoCal received one of the greatest new additions to its arsenal of diverse and incredible haunts with the advent of Pasadena's Ghostwood Manor. Located at the border of Altadena, this walkthrough maze possesses the aesthetic excellence of a museum exhibit with the added embellishments of a haunted house. It is safe to say that it is warranted that Ghostwood Manor has become an instant haunter favorite for everyone in the SoCal area.

Pharaoh's Hall is a journey into an ancient Egyptian tomb filled with tricks and treats. The exterior pillars are meticulously carved with hieroglyphics, and the same attention to detail is captured with the hand carved bas-reliefs within the tomb. You will encounter Anubis, you will see a corpse being devoured by scarab beetles, and you will be mesmerized by a mummified child holding a mummy teddy bear. The child’s eyes emit powerful emerald lazer beams which cut through the fog, bringing to life the ancient Pharaoh. He bellows, “Who dares enter my tomb?!”. The maze concludes with a wonderful new addition of an animatronic mummy arm popping out of the sarcophagus, to everyone's surprise.

It is amazing to see how haunts can soar to new places thanks to the innovative and creative talents of local artists. Similarly to The Farm Haunt, who at their previous Glendale location created an entire world within the limited space of a driveway, Ghostwood Manor has used their driveway to create an immersive experience within the bowels of an ancient Egyptian tomb. In addition to being a stunning work of art, Pharaoh's Hall is appropriate for people of all ages as it does not contain any scare actors.
