REVIEW: Fillmore Graves’ Jack-O-Lantern Farm
For the past seventeen years, Scott Goddard, a Disney Imagineer whose work can be seen in legendary attractions such as Phantom Manor, has been transforming his home and yard into an immensely beautiful and haunting world that he calls the “Fillmore Graves’ Jack-O-Lantern Farm”.
Located in Sherman Oaks, this DIY yard haunt combines a refined attention to detail with incredible technical prowess; offering sights such as incandescent floating fireflies, ghost holograms (reminiscent of Phantom Manor!), and motion activated responses which are all executed with the perfection of a Disney Imagineer.
The prominent creepy denizen of this yard display is the handcrafted crone whose hunchbacked body and glowing eyes closely guard the nearby haunted shack. On the shack’s porch creeks an automated rocking chair on which sits a glowing jack-o’-lantern. Floating candles offer spectral illumination as gnarled trees stare with frozen grimaces. A life size skeleton sits among the trees, tipping his hat to his shadowy companions.
On approach to Goddard’s porch visitors will be treated to a magnificent window display featuring an organ played by a ghostly apparition whose face can be seen reflected in an antique mirror. The melancholy sounds of rolling thunder accompany sudden flashes of lighting as visitors enjoy the organ music and admire the Victorian decor embellished with eerie portraits, a cobwebbed chandelier, and spirits of spiders that scutter about.
Scott Goddard is an absolute delight to chat with if you are fortunate enough to meet him. This year he was dressed up as the infamous dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald, which he pulled off with absolute perfection. We highly recommend that you visit Fillmore Graves’ Jack-O-Lantern Farm in order to enjoy this absolutely stunning yard display and feel a profound sense of otherworldly beatitude.
