REVEIW: Club Fear - Twisted Manor
Club Fear is a clown infested maze has been haunting visitors since 2016, and tells the story of an evil clown named “Rellik”. Pieces of the narrative of this evil protagonist are revealed through new mazes each year. This year you will learn Rellik’s origin story as you experience “Twisted Manor”, the horror-filled home in which Rellik spent his traumatized childhood.
The outside of Twisted Manor is lit with black lights and phosphorescent tones of purple and green. Next to this exterior is a cemetery in which you wait in line while Rellik and his demented posse of neon-colored clowns slide and taunt visitors waiting to enter. This preview of the cast of characters allows you to see the superb make-up effects as the clowns’ twisted and elongated faces seem extraordinary real.
Inside the maze you will encounter an impressive number of small details, like door handles in the shape of ominous snakes and customized Haunted Mansion meets the circus wallpaper. This year Club Fear traded in some of their previous Arkham Asylum influences for more macabre accents like skulls and tenebrous medieval stone walls. There is even a “switchback” trick inspired from Beware the Dark Realm (whom Club Fear cited as an influence). During this illusion you will enter into a dead end hallway and come face-to-face with an evil clown staring at you from behind a window. As you realize that you can’t progress any further, the windowed wall starts to rapidly close in on you. While you are distracted by this, another clown quietly moves the wall behind you to reveal a new area of the maze by the time you turn around. This “switchback” was executed perfectly and we absolutely loved it!
Twisted Manor proves that Club Fear’s team is extremely talented and has artfully developed an enduring and engrossing story of a bizarre and sinister clown whom we have grown to love over the years. We look forward to experiencing how Rillek’s saga further unfolds, as Club Fear expands their growing set of skills every Halloween season.
