REVIEW: Beware the Dark Realm

Since 1971, Scott Sivley has frightened thousands of visitors every Halloween season with his haunted mazes which have evolved throughout the years. As of  2013 he has been focusing on his masterpiece, “Beware the Dark Realm”, which takes you into the dark world of a medieval castle and its village. A legendary Southern California maze, Beyond the Dark Realm offers perfectly executed illusions and fantastic scares. The beauty and grandeur of this haunt is the result of Sivley’s talent and craftsmanship, which he has been perfecting for longer than most of his guests have been alive.

Sively manages to fit the castle and village of The Dark Realm into the limited space of his driveway and front yard. He is so adept at transforming dimensions that the maze feels limitless and somehow incorporates new additions every year. This year there are some rearrangements to the maze along with an enormous dragon who sits at the top of the village. The Dark Realm has many different characters, including witches and warriors, who appear from behind castle walls with riddles and one-liners.

Sivley and his family are master builders and offer constant surprises within their Dark Realm. They have created a timeless and beautiful work of art which seeks to bring joyful scares to all those who visit. In return, all they ask for are donations to a domestic violence shelter. Beware the Dark Realm is an unforgettable experience that will leave you feeling jubilant and inspired.
