review: Alhambra High School presents Circus of Nightmares

Back in 2019 we attended what was supposed to be the last year of the Alhambra High School (AHS) annual fundraising haunt. This event, which takes place for one night only, is put on by the AHS Thespian Society Troupe. The AHS drama students, along with their teacher Mrs. Snow, create original walkthrough mazes located within the school's theater. Since we thought this maze had permanently ended we were surprised and ecstatic, during our "off the beaten path" research last week, to see that AHS was bringing back their haunt for a new season.

This year's haunt, titled "Circus of Nightmares", takes visitors on a frightening and intense journey through a circus filled to the brim with horrors. The AHS students, with their quick, energetic improvisational skills and impressive, handcrafted sets, brought a world of terror to life. There were many memorable scenes, like the woman being sawed in half while possessed teenagers surrounded you laughing and eating rotten cotton candy, a warty woman with a kissing booth, a knife-wielding Carny murdering his victim, zombies, and of course a wide variety of scary clowns!

Circus of Nightmares was a remarkable experience. The boundless energy of the AHS actors was both intense and focused, creating a very impressive haunt. Their talent for horror goes beyond most experienced mazes. We hope they continue to do this fundraiser for their theater group and we can't wait to see what they have in store next!
